SHILLONG: Swami Achyuteshananda Maharaj of the Ramakrishna Mission on Friday appreciated the contribution of the Christian Brothers, who came from across the seas to start St. Edmund’s College 92 years ago.
Addressing a felicitation cum farewell function for the 3rd year students held on Friday at St. Edmund’s College auditorium, Achyuteshananda Maharaj encouraged the students to work for their own growth and development keeping in mind the values they have received from the College.
Dr. Sylvanus Lamare, Principal, reminded the students that as Edmundians they have received the best opportunity to learn and for all round development.
“It is time for you to finally prepare yourselves to face the real challenges of the 21st century. Go out with an open mind and be leaders in every field and heroes who never yield,” Dr. Lamare said.
Several awards were presented to the students including the (L) R. N. Bajaj Award for overall excellence, (L) Parmeshwari Devi Bajaj Award for the best female graduate, (L) N. Karmakar and (L) A. Karmakar Award for the topper in Mathematics, (L) B. Dutta Memorial Award for the topper in Political Science, Valentine Richard Miranda Memorial Award for the topper in Environmental Science and the most environment friendly student, Marjorie Miranda Memorial Award for the topper in Bachelor of Social Work and the student most passionately involved in social outreach, Prof. M. Kalita Award for the topper in Chemistry, (L) Prof. Ganguli Award for the topper in Physics and Prof. D.C. Dhar Award for the topper in Zoology. The Platinum Jubilee awards for the toppers in Arts, Commerce, BCA, BSW and Science were also presented on the occasion.
A speech was presented by Anjelina Tynhiang, a differently-able student, who appreciated the College for providing the differently able equal opportunity in the College.
As part of the programme Prof. Monotosh Chakravarty called out the names who were nominated for the ‘Edmundian 2015’. Jason Jyrwa, a student of Geography Department was declared as the Edmundian 2015.
Other highlights of the programme included songs and dances presented by the students.
