Union Mos (Home),  H P Chaudhary inspects passing out parade at NEPA

SHILLONG: Union Minister of State for Home, Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary on Saturday said that the Government has taken multiple measures to stop cross border insurgency in the North East.
Speaking at the passing out parade of the 230 trainees of the 41st Basic Course of the North Eastern Police Academy at Umsaw in Ri Bhoi on Saturday, Chaudhary said that new strategies and multi-pronged approach have been adopted for effective border management. He also observed that secessionist and extremist challenges in the Northeastern states and Jammu & Kashmir have made the job of law enforcing agencies difficult.
Stating that policing in North East is distinctly different from the rest of India, he said that due to historical, cultural, and demographical reasons the police officers in the region will have to be more sensitive and professionally superior.
According to the Union Minister of State, since some of the states in the region are affected by insurgency, it is important to take the local populace into confidence and boost the image of the police force to pave way for better policing.
“Strict and firm attitude is to be tempered with sensitivity, so that the community is able to absorb the empathy, sympathy and compassion of policemen ,” he said. Meanwhile, briefing more on border management Chaudhary said, “Border management has been improved by a multi-tiered and multimodal  deployment along the international border and LOC. Various tactical and operational strategies have been adopted to degrade the efforts and capabilities of militants to disturb peace in the states.”
He further added that the new initiative of “smart policing” imparted by the Academy will be of great help to the trainees.
The minister also announced that Rs 2 crore has been sanctioned for the welfare of the trainees and employees of the NEPA.
Meanwhile, Director of NEPA, Doley Barman said after 48 weeks rigorous training, 230 trainees of the 41st batch successfully completed their course.
