Seminar on hill agriculture and climate change inaugurated
AGARTALA: National seminar on ‘Sustaining Hill Agriculture in Changing Climate’ is being organized by Indian Association of Hill Farming (IAHF) and ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya from December 5 to 7 at Pragna Bhawan, Agartala. The seminar is being attended by about 175 scientists, experts, teachers, extension personnel, student and farmers from across the country, especially from the Himalayan region. The inaugural function of the seminar was held on December 5 and graced by the Governor of Tripura Tathagata Roy as chief guest. Jitendra Chauhan, Scientific Adviser to Union Minister of Agriculture, Gov of India and SV Ngachan, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Umiam were also present on the occasion. The inaugural programme was attended by about 300 participants including officials from Govt of Tripura and about 50 farmers, mostly from Tripura and about 10 farmers from other states.
COMEDK PG entrance test-2016 on Jan 17
Guwahati: COMEDK will be conducting Post Graduate Entrance Test-2016 (PGET–2016) across the country, including Guwahati, on January 17 next year for nearly 600 institutional seats in medical, dental and engineering colleges in Karnataka, a release said on Sunday. The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) entrance test so far conducted only in Karnataka, would now be held at more than 60 cities across the country, including Guwahati and Shillong, as an online computer based test, the release said. The test would benefit students by saving their time and money in travel and accommodation in Karnataka, it said. The exam would determine the merit of students through a fair, transparent and reliable testing procedure for admission for the academic year 2016-17, it said. The admission would be for post-graduate programmes in member institutions of Karnataka Professional Colleges Foundation and Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association. The single session exam with 180 multiple choice questions would have separate tests for the 12-member Medical and 20 Dental colleges, it said. (PTI)
Assam Rifles Director General visits Nagaland
NAGALAND: Lt Gen HJS Sachdev, AVSM, SM, Director General Assam Rifles (DGAR) accompanied by President, Assam Rifles Wives Welfare Association (ARWWA), Vadana Sachdev, visited Nagaland on his four day visit to IGAR (N) from December 1to 4. During their visit, DGAR along with President ARWWA called on Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland, P B Acharya and Chief Minister of Nagaland,TR Zeliang. He briefed the Governor and the Chief Minister on the prevailing security situation in the state, various development projects being undertaken and the role of Assam Rifles in providing a safe and stable environment for development and growth. DGAR also thanked Governor and CM for the assistance provided by the State Govt to Assam Rifles in maintaining peace and tranquillity in the State.
