SHILLONG: The investigation into the Class IX question paper leak has virtually turned into a loop with a ‘chain reaction’ of accusation labeled by the students who are being questioned in connection with the case.
Students have been attributing the source of the leaked question papers to other students who in their turn have been pointing fingers at some other students which has perplexed the investigating officers probing the question paper leak.
With investigation failing to make any significant progress, police said they cannot zero in on any school as the source of the paper leakage remains unknown.
“We are doing a comprehensive investigation into the case,” SP (City) Vivek Syiem said on Sunday.
No arrest has been made so far even though several students allegedly involved in the leakage have been questioned.
Question papers of Science & Technology, Mathematics and other subjects of the Class IX internal examination 2015 were first leaked in Jowai and Khliehriat. Less than a week later, the   question paper of the Khasi (IL) subject was also leaked through Whatsapp in Shillong. Question paper leak was also reported in Ri Bhoi.
According to police, the leakage has revealed a ‘chain reaction’ which has put the investigators as well as Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) in dilemma.
A student on being caught red handed disclosed that he had obtained the paper from some other student, and later, the second student revealed that she got it from another student and this never ending attribution to a different source is making it difficult for the police to reach the primary source, police added.
Interestingly, question paper leak was not reported from Garo Hills for the Class IX examination as the system of sending the question papers to deposit centres was done away with in Garo Hills whereas the system continues to be implemented in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region.
Despite suggestions from various quarters to abolish the deposit centres in Khasi-Jaintia Hills, MBOSE is yet to come up with an announcement in this regard.
