Rowell treks with orphan students as part of edu tour

SHILLONG:  Back in the days of old, when places were safe to travel, residents from Mawkyrwat, while heading for marketing at Iew Mawngap (Mawngap market) or Mawphlang would walk for 11-12 hours to reach the market places and would take the same route after marketing.
Rowell Lyngdoh, Deputy Chief Minister on Saturday last gathered together orphans form Mawkyrwat and Mawphlang as part of an educational tour, exhibiting them the significance of trekking and educating the children the effort taken by the people in the by-gone era.
Lyngdoh, while trekking with the students also recalled with them the time when he, as a young lad had walked from Mawphlang to Rangshken though the David Scott trail. The Deputy CM also participated in advance Christmas feast with the orphans who also entertained the people with their songs and other programmes.
He pointed out that the children need to be taught of the essence of trekking considering that in olden days, roads were bad with no proper means of transportation as compared to the present day.
S Nadon, Executive Engineer of Water Resources, Nongpoh and O.T Lyngwa, Divisional Officer of Soil and Water Conservation, Mawkyrwat and many others participated in the trekking.
