HC summons Law Dept official

SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya on Tuesday summoned the Special Secretary, Law  LM Sangma following the resignation of Advocate General KS Kynjing.
The Court wanted the Advocate General to continue till the government appoints his successor “as no constitutional position can remain vacant during the hearing of the pending cases”.
The Advocate General, who was present in the Court, however, refused to withdraw his resignation.
An official source said that the government was yet to accept Kynjing’s resignation.
The process is that the law department forwards the resignation letter to the Governor for the acceptance.
The decision to replace the Advocate General was taken during the cabinet meeting held on Friday last.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had even written a letter of acknowledging the service Kynjing rendered as the Advocate General.
Following pressure from the government, Kynjing tendered his resignation on Saturday.
