It’s carnival time for Garo Hills ahead of Christmas

SHILLONG: With Christmas approaching, the State Government is organizing a lot of winter festivals in different parts of Garo Hills.
The District Administration of West Garo Hills is organizing a two-day winter festival at Tura with an estimated budget of Rs 20 lakh.
The theme of this year’s winter festival being organized by the West Garo Hills District Administration and Tura Arts and Culture Society, is a message to the youth – “Think Global, Act Local” – a clarion call to the youth to connect with world by the use of internet and tools of learning and entertainment, networking and e-marketing.
On the other hand, Dimchrang Festival is also being organized in Ampati.
The festival is being organized by South West Garo Hills District Arts and Culture Society and managed by Tura-based NGO -William Initiative in partnership with local youth clubs and NGOs.
South West Garo Hills DC Ram Singh said that the estimated budget for the event is around Rs 14 lakh.
Meanwhile, the East Garo Hills District Administration in collaboration with the Tasek Tourism Development Committee supported by the District Arts & Culture Society, IBDLP and the Chief Minister’s Youth for Green Campaign also organized a two-day Tasek Festival under the theme “Water for Life” at Tasek Lake under Songsak C & RD Block on December 16 and 17 with a view to create awareness and also to bring in possible convergence for developing  the aquatic diversity, livelihood improvement, promote eco-tourism and enterprises.
East Garo Hills DC CVD Diengdoh said that the total budget of the festival is not less than Rs 2 lakh and there has been a collective partnership with different departments to organize the festival.
