SHILLONG: With time running out of digitization of Cable TV network in Shillong, the deadline for which has been set as December 31, cable operators in Shillong have urged the Central government to extend the deadline.
Proprietor of Pearls Cable TV Network, Shyam Singhania, informed The Shillong Times that many cable TV subscribers have expressed their inability to buy and install Set Top Boxes at this juncture since it is the festive season.
The cable operators in the city have also met the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner in this regard, he informed.
Reacting to a query, Singhania said around 25 per cent of cable TV subscribers under their network have already purchased and installed STBs.
It may be mentioned that from January 1, 2016, cable operators in city will have to switch from analog to digital mode as part of the Centre’s initiative to digitize cable TV networks in the country by 2016.
