General secretary of association taken to hospital, released

NONGPOH: As the indefinite hunger strike staged by the Hynniewtrep National Achik Movement (HANM), women’s wing entered the fifth day, general secretary of the association, B. Sungoh had to be rushed to the Nongpoh Civil Hospital in the wake of her deteriorating health condition.
The HANM women’s wing members are protesting against the ‘indifferent attitude’ of the Government towards their demand for construction of a single lane road connecting 13 Mile to Killing in Ri Bhoi district for the benefit of 18 villages.
The doctor attending to Sungoh said that dehydration and fever apart from a sinus infection have made her weak. The doctor advised food and rest for the patient which she refused.
Following the medical checkup, Sungoh rejoined her colleagues to continue with the hunger strike. She asserted that the agitation would not be called off until the government decides to meet their demand.
The HANM (WW) had earlier said that the deplorable road condition in the concerned villages had forced the local residents to use the Assam road to travel within  the State despite facing harassment.
