Waterfalls complex inaugurated at Syntung

SHILLONG: MTDC Chairman, David Nongrum inaugurated the Wahrashi Waterfalls Complex-cum-Recreational Centre at Syntung village, around 70 kms from Shillong, on Saturday. Syntung falls under Mawkynrew C&RD Block.
The inauguration programme was also attended by local MLA, R. Pyngrope, NEC Secretary, R. Muivah, Adviser, Banking, Industries & Tourism, NEC, G. Chintey, H. Suting, Sordar Shnong Syntung village and people from the village and its adjoining areas.
The project was approved by North Eastern Council (NEC) at a total cost of Rs. 51.18 lakh. While the NEC financed Rs. 40 lakh for the project the remaining Rs. 11.18 lakh was contributed by the Dorbar Shnong of Syntung, which is also the implementing agency.
A peripheral footpath, parking lot, rain shelter and observatory, park cum children’s playground and toilets are all part of the project.
Addressing the gathering Nongrum said that the State Government in partnership with the NEC aims to tap the abundant resources for developing the tourism industry in the State.
He also said that Meghalaya with its many picturesque waterfalls, beautiful landscape and pleasant climate, can become one of the major tourist destinations in the country and can create avenues for income generation for the local people in the different parts of the State.
