Engineer appointment
SHILLONG: The Megha-laya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has come under scanner for the alleged violation of job reservation policy in the recruitment to the post of Assistant Engineer (Electronics).
The MeECL published an advertisement on October 20 this year seeking applications to fill four posts of Assistant Engineer (Electronics), two posts of Junior Engineer (Civil) and twelve posts of Junior Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical).
The vacancies were to be filled as per the reservation policy of the state government.
Following the written examination, the result was declared on December 9, 2015 but the candidates were shocked as to the manner in which the MeECL selected the candidates, especially for the post of Assistant Engineer (Electronics).
The affected candidates pointed out that the cause of concern is that out of seven candidates who passed the written test, only two candidates were selected from scheduled tribes.
Allegations are that the selection of candidates was carried out without following the job reservation policy.
The reservation policy, states that where the number of vacancies is nine or less, “the same shall be treated as reserved vacancies in favour of the protected communities as specified in the Resolution and Office Memoranda.”
According to the candidates, while there were only four vacancies for the posts of Assistant Engineer (Electronics), the posts should have be reserved in favour of the specified communities
The affected candidates also observed that the applications of candidates who are not from the indigenous communities were rejected in the past, if they had applied for posts with less than 9 vacancies.
The candidates further said, “The MPSC used to reject the applications of non indigenous candidates if they apply for the posts which have less than 9 vacancies as per reservation policy,” The candidates wanted to know whether f the MeECL would conduct personal interview, as the selection process has violated the job reservation policy.
