Report sought as Govt school directs students to buy textbooks

SHILLONG: Following reports of a government LP school asking its students to purchase their own text books, the state government has sought a report from Mass and Elementary Education department regarding the matter.
As per the norm, the Government is supposed to distribute books to the students but the Government LP School Nongthymmai issued the list of text books to be purchased by Class II students much to the dismay of several poor parents.
Moreover, another list of books was issued to students of Class V of the same school.
Aggrieved over the direction of the school, the affected parents approached CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing who met the Principal Secretary, Education PK Srtivastava on the issue.
According to Kharshiing, Srivastava immediately contacted the Mass and Elementary Education department to address the issue.
