SHILLONG: KHADC MDC Latiplang Kharkongor has condemned the Amendment to the Meghalaya Services (Conduct) Rules, 1990, barring Government servants from holding office under the Dorbar Shnong or any organization.
Kharkongor on Tuesday asserted that such a move by the Cabinet was against Article 13 and 14 of the Constitution and threatened to stage a protest against the Amendment.
He feared that with the Amendment, a government servant may be barred from holding positions in the Church as well.
Kharkongor said he will hold talks with Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong and Synjuk Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri u Hynniewtrep to apprise the State government of the matter.
“As indigenous people we cannot accept the harassment meted by the State government as the roles of government servants in the Church,  Dorbar Shnong and others have been in existence since times immemorial,” he added.
Kharkongor also expressed surprised over the silence of the ministers on the issue.
