Gang involved in lifting over a dozen Boleros busted in GH

TURA: In a large scale operation by West Garo Hills police spread over two consecutive days, a car lifters’ gang involved in theft of over a dozen Boleros from Garo Hills has been busted and four members of the group taken into custody.
West Garo Hills police initially arrested two active members of the group – Garnet A. Sangma alias Dimrim of New Chandonpara village of Garobadha and Mankachar based Mehdi Hussain Mondol. Both the accused were caught near the Assam-Garo Hills inter-state border at a place called Monabari.
Following interrogation, the arrested duo revealed that two other gang members were holed up in Matchakolgre locality of Tura.
Police raided the house where the two accused were taking shelter and arrested Kebi A Sangma of Dermile, Tura and 18 year old Mitdu R Marak who hails from Bajengdoba region of North Garo Hills.
The arrested gang members are said to have told police interrogators that they were involved in the lifting of around 12-15 Bolero vehicles from the Garo Hills districts with the majority of thefts taking place in Tura town itself.
They also confessed that all the   lifted vehicles were transported to Dimapur in Nagaland from where the Boleros were purchased by potential buyers from the state after the engine and chassis numbers were tampered with and a fake registration document was prepared.
