Agartala: The Tripura government on Sunday suspended two employees of the police communication division for their alleged delay in transmission of radio message regarding Tripura High Court’s order barring police not to arrest former CPI-M MLA of Amarpur Manarajan Acharjee on January 8 last.
Allegedly, police communication wing had made inordinate delay in transmitting the court order that led to his arrest despite protection from the high court. Acharjee was arrested on January 9, a day after the HC order and a local court sent him to three days’ judicial custody.
The high court, on January 12 criticised the police over the arrest of Acharjee on molestation charges for non-complying with the court order and directed the Director General of Police to investigate the matter.
During investigation, it was found that the message was delayed by more than 30 hours because of the transmission staff attached in Superintendent of Police office (Communication).
Initially, two employees’ Supervisor (Operation) Chayanpada Bhattacharjee and Wireless operator Sujoy Bhattacharjee were suspended from the service, officials said on Sunday.
Besides, the lapse on the part of four others–In-charge message control centre Bijoy Debbarma, Braja Debbarma and Ajit Shukladas, Supervisors and Mohit Lal Sarkar, Wireless operator–were established in initial investigation and action will soon be taken against them, informed a senior official of Tripura police.  (UNI)
