Acidic nature of PHE water

SHILLONG: Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek on Tuesday asked the KHNAM youth wing members to file a complaint if they felt that the water being supplied in Shillong is acidic following which, the Government through its own agencies can conduct a detailed tests.
The statement came after KHNAM youth wing members met the Minister to apprise him about the poor quality of water being supplied in the city by the PHE.
“We have told them to make a complaint and our own agencies will go and collect the water and accordingly it will be sent to Food Safety department for tests,” Hek said adding that the Government will take all measures to ensure that people’s health is not affected.
On the other hand, KHNAM youth wing president, Thomas Passah demanded the intervention of the Health department into the matter and urged it to conduct a test on the water from Greater Shillong Water Supply project.
He also accused the PHE of trying to mislead people on the issue. Earlier, the PHE had rubbished the allegation made by the KHNAM and stated the water being supplied from the GSWS project conformed with “drinking water standards”.
