NONGSTOIN: The local Headman of Sangriang and Mawthar and the villagers have asked the office of the Executive Engineer, Nongstoin Division to resume the construction of the long pending 6-8 km road from Mawduh to Sangriang, a known tourist spot in Meghalaya (Nongkhnum) within 15 days, failing which, they threatened to agitate and gherao the PWD office.
Nearly 15 years since the implementation of the road from Nongstoin to Sangriang, the work related to the project stopped at Mawduh area.
Only 2 km is left for the completion of the entire stretch of the road, but there is no hope for further resumption of work.
The condition of road at Sangriang area has turned from bad to worse and hit the villagers hard though the scheme for implementation of the road project was sanctioned fifteen years ago.
The dep-lorable condition of the road from Mawduh to Sangriang has created a lot of hardships to the people of the area, especially for the patients who have to travel to the nearest health centre for treatment”, stated by B.Rynshiang Sordar of Sangriang in a statement issued on Tuesday.
He also added that the sorry state of the road has affected the movement of the villagers.
He also said in response to the  RTI query  by the FKJGP Nongkhnum Circle, it was revealed that that the work was allotted to Brington K.Bani and Herbert K.Bani, who are contractors from Nongstoin.
The construction of road was completed only for 6 km, leaving the remaining 2 km.
The RTI reply also pointed out that the road project was sanctioned for Rs.64 lakh, Rs.26 lakh has already been drawn by the contractor.
The Headman and the villagers of Sangriang and Mawthar have threatened to launch agitation if the concerned department fails to respond.
