SHILLONG: Work for the Jowai-Malidor road project will begin in February this year. Reliable sources from the NHAI said that GR infrastructure, which completed the Shillong Bypass one year ahead of its deadline, will take up the project.
However, land acquisition still remains a serious concern and the NHAI is counting on the State Government to ensure that the project is completed on time.
The estimated budget of the project is Rs 452 crore.
The proposed upgradation of National Highway 44 from Jowai in West Jaintia Hills to Malidor on the Meghalaya-Assam border, which was scheduled to start in 2014 was delayed due to various reasons.
The project, under which the Jowai-Malidor stretch is scheduled to be converted into a two lane highway, required additional land for setting up of infrastructures like toll gates, junctions and others.
The expansion work of the arterial NH 44 has been approved under Phase III of the National Highway Development Programme.
