Republic Day
The Under Secretary to the Governor of Meghalaya has informed that in connection with the Republic Day 2016 celebration, Raj Bhavan, Shillong, will be kept open for the general public on January 25 and 26 from 4:30 PM to 7 PM.
NEC will observe Republic Day on January 26 with the hoisting of the National Flag by members of the NEC at 8 AM at the NEC Secretariat, Nongrim Hills, Shillong.
Dry Day
Dry Day has been declared in all the districts and sub-divisions of the State on January 26 on account of Republic Day. All liquor shops, IMFL shops, bars, hotels, canteen, C.A. bars, C.S. shops, out stills and bonded warehouse will remain closed on the said date.
Project launch
The General Assembly, Presbyterian Church of India, is launching a project on Thomas Jones House of Prayer at Kutmadan village, Sohra. The foundation stone laying ceremony will be held on January 23 at 11 AM in the presence of Rev. D.C. Haia, Moderator, PCI.
Election
The BJP in Tura has elected Bernard N Marak as its district president. Marak was unanimously elected to the post in the presence of party members in Tura.
PDS sugar
ISS grade Sugar 30 under TPDS for September 2015 has been released and will be distributed to beneficiaries in East Khasi Hills through the respective fair price shops as per fixed scale and rate.
Parking shifted
The Meghalaya Tourist Transporters Association has taken a decision to shift the tourist Swift & Alto 800 stand plying from Shillong to Jowai from Anjalee Parking Lot to Iew Mawlong (Mawlong Hat Parking Lot) with effect from January 25.
Excise raids
The Excise staff of East Khasi Hills conducted raids in the city in November 2015 and detected 32 cases with a seizure of 101.980 litres of I/D liquor and 47.710 litres of IMFL. 26 persons were arrested under the Excise Act.
