SHILLONG: After Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, the State BJP will now urge the Centre to send more para-military men to the State particularly in Garo Hills in view of the deteriorating law and order situation there.
A three-member delegation of Meghalaya BJP led by its president Shibun Lyngdoh left for Delhi on Friday to meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to apprise him of the prevailing law and order situation especially in Garo Hills.
Prior to his departure to the national capital, the state BJP chief told newsmen that the prevailing law and order situation in the state was a matter of concern.
“We will request him (Rajnath Singh) to send more forces to the state to bring the situation under control,” he said.
Lyngdoh informed that the state BJP decided to plead for more security forces to be deployed in the state as the State Chief Minister had recently demanded the same with Singh for tackling militancy problem.
In addition, the three members of the state BJP will also participate in the party’s national president’s election scheduled to be held on January 24.
The other members of the delegation are Edmund K Sangma and DD Sohphoh.
Apart from meeting the Union Home minister, Lyngdoh informed that the delegation would also be meeting other ministers to highlight some of the serious issues concerning the state.
He also stated that the party is concerned about the poor condition of roads in the state especially in the rural areas.
He also asked the State Government to take measures for the environmental protection state especially in view of the reports that the water supplied by PHE in Shillong is highly acidic and unfit for human consumption.
Participating in the press meet Edmund Sangma asked the State Government to properly utilize the Central fund while alleging that the state Government failed to utilize a whopping amount of Rs 144 crore provided under the NLCPR .
Ampareen’s removal: The BJP also demanded the resignation of Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh for her alleged role in granting permission to illegal high-rise in the state.
“The Congress government should remove the minister to allow a free and fair probe in the scam,” Shibun Lyngdoh said.
He said the minister should have stepped down on her own after being named in the CBI findings on the high rise scam. The Opposition UDP has also demanded her removal for her alleged role in the scam.
