SHILLONG: Though the Congress-led government in the State has amended the service rules to exclude government servants from being associated with village administration and social organizations, there are differences of opinion regarding the matter within the party.
The issue, among others, was raised in the first meeting of the re-constituted Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee held on Monday. The matter will be taken up further by the meeting of the Coordination Committee of MPCC.
A statement issued by MPCC president DD Lapang said that to address the issues arising out of NGT ban and VAB Bill, “including the issue pertaining to the involvement or otherwise of the Government employees in the Village Administration, which was discussed at length, it was decided to take up the matter in the meeting of the Coordination Committee of MPCC”.
The State Cabinet recently amended Rule 20 (B) of Meghalaya Service and Conduct Rules debarring anyone in service, except previous sanctions, to hold office or membership in any community based organizations, associations and traditional bodies.
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, meanwhile, recently extended its support to the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) demanding to de-notify the Government’s proposed amendment to Meghalaya Services (Conduct) rules.
