Kashyap ruled out, Saina‘highly’ doubtful
Gutta to lead team
Shillong: Star shuttler Jwala Gutta has been confirmed as the captain of the Indian badminton team at the 12th South Asian Games 2016 by Badminton Association of India (BAI) President, Akhilesh Das Gupta.
The Indian shuttlers are expected to arrive in Shillong on Thursday afternoon. The badminton discipline will then commence on Saturday at the Sports Authority of India Special Area Games Centre at NEHU.
India won all seven goal medals on offer at the last Games in Bangladesh in 2010.
Meanwhile, Parupalli Kashyap will not be able to take part in the Games due to an injury. In what could be more disappointing for the fans the participation of Saina Nehwal also remains highly doubtful.
The BAI president also hoped that India will clinch all the medals in badminton as it did in the 2010 edition of the Games.
The badminton discipline is among the most sought after events of the Games with the likes of K Srikanth and PV Sindhu in the Indian squad.
