Project LIFE launched
Project LIFE, an initiative of the Union Ministry of Rural Development, to promote self reliance and improve the skill base of MGNREGA workers, was on Tuesday launched at Dymmiew, under Pynursla CR&D Block, East Khasi Hills. The Punjab National Bank-Rural Self Training Institute, East Khasi Hills has been tasked with imparting skill training to the participants from Dymmiew and other villages.
Copies distributed
The FKJGP Mawkhar Circle has distributed exercise copies to students hailing from 80 poor families. The FKJGP said education is the grassroot of development and also expressed concern over the high drop-out rates.
Smuggler duo nabbed
A habitual smuggler along with his accomplice was nabbed by 183 Bn BSF from Dalu border in West Garo Hills on Tuesday. The troops arrested one Manoj Sangma and another person with two bags of Phensedyl in their possession.
Inauguration
The inauguration and blessing of the Vendrame Institute of Rural Training and Animation was held at Mawpdang on Monday. The programme began with the Holy Eucharist presided over by Archbishop Dominic Jala. A cultural programme was also organised on the occasion.
Health mela
A two-day mega health mela under the theme ‘My Life, My Health’ was organized by the District Health & Family Welfare Bureau, South West Garo Hills at Ganggikona SSA U.P. School, near Zikzak Block headquarter, which got underway on Tuesday. Besides the free health check up for various ailments conducted by the doctors and specialists from Tura Civil Hospital, health awareness rally, various competitions for school children and IEC programmes are also being organized.
Public hearing
The 2nd phase public hearing programme on social audit on the status of the work under MGNREGA was held on Tuesday at Bharat Nirman Rajeev Gandhi Seva Kendra (Hall), C&RD Block Office, Thadlaskein, West Jaintia Hills.
