SHILLONG: 77 people comprising farmers and officials of the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA) who had gone to attend the 4th Dairy Conference in Karnal, Haryana have been stranded near Sonepat while on their way back on account of the violence that erupted over the reservation demand by the Jat community.
Fortunately they have been given shelter at the National Fertilizer Employees Co-operative Society which is providing food and accommodation to them. They have been advised not to move as there are shoot at sight orders.
Two MBDA officials – Dr. B. Lyngdoh and Dr. H. Paul – are with the team, informed Aiban Swer, Officer on Special Duty, Meghalaya Institute of Governance.
Meanwhile, Nodal Officer for NE Region, Delhi, Robin Hibu, has also advised that the team should remain where they are until the agitation dies down as the shoot at sight order is still in force and arson and violence is still continuing. Hibu has asked those who are stranded to contact him on his mobile No. 9810083846.
Hibu informed that the local Gurdwaras have provided food and accommodation to hundreds of people who are stranded because the trains have been cancelled. He said the Gurdwaras are doing a phenomenal social service. The Art of Living contact person Vishal Goswami is also being contacted.
