JOWAI: Rumours of ‘blood hunters’ or ‘Menshohnoh’ as they are called in the State has been spreading like wildfire in both districts of Jaintia Hills.
Various unconfirmed incidents about people, both young and old, falling victims to ‘Menshohnoh’ are being reported by the hour.
On Saturday, leaders of the Jaintia National Union (JNU) were apprehended by villagers at Nartiang. The pressure groups leaders had a narrow escape only due to the timely arrival of police.
According to police, the JNU leaders  were spying on an alleged gang of drug dealers and had gone to Nartiang in West Jaintia Hills in chase. However, the drug peddlers gave them a slip and later villagers apprehended the JNU leaders only to be rescued by police later.
In another incident, six youths visited the famous Tyrshi Falls of Jaintia Hills at Khliehtyrshi village in a tata Sumo. While returning back from the Waterfalls the youth and the driver found that the spare tyre, music systems and other items inside the vehicles had been stolen.
Immediately, the youth went to Jowai PS and lodged a complaint leaving the vehicle at the same place.
The youths later returned to the spot in the evening and hid themselves in a bid to nab the thieves. However, some local residents spotted them there and alerted the villagers who attempted to catch them.
The youths managed to call the OC of Jowai PS who immediately sent a police team and rescued the youths.
