SHILLONG: The 16th National Convention of the All India Poetess Conference (AIPC) kicked off here on Thursday. The four-day event will see participation of writers and poetesses from 19 states and three countries.
Inaugurating the meet, Home Minister Roshan Warjri, while speaking on the theme “Able hands, simple hearts” said, “What is needed in the world today is compassion and kindness, these are virtues that can never be replaced. The works of the writers have contributed to the welfare of the society.”
She also observed that the Convention will provide platform and opportunities to various writers to share their thoughts that affect the society at large even as young artists are given exposure to excel.
Warjri also narrated an incident from her personal life where being hospitalized from a stroke and mild heart attack in 1994, she took to writing to vent out her frustration and aspirations. She hoped that the works will be published someday.
“Each form of writing is to be respected and this forms the basis of free expression for all art forms,” she added.
On the occasion, the souvenir of AIPC, Kalyajee and Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (JHSS) were released along with books of authors from across the country.
The four-day mega convention will witness manifold topics on poetry recitation, research paper discussions and an international AIPC orientation by founder of AIPC, Dr MA Lari Azad.
