SHILLONG: The Committee on man power mapping of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has decided to take the advice of the Attorney General to scrap the list of the successful candidates for the post of jugali which were duly advertised on June 15, 2011 and the interview for the same was conducted in August and September 2012. The results of the tests are still awaited though.
This was revealed in reply to RTI questions posed by CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing.
“The result of the interview is still awaited despite the fact that there were 306 vacancies. This is of great concern as there are many villages that are to be covered with operation and maintenance of line and sub-station and the need for jugali may also have been felt by the authorities who advertised for the posts then,” Kharshiing said in a statement on Sunday.
“The MeECL authorities have ignored this fact and caused harassment to the candidates who were cheated as they had high expectations of getting a job,” Kharshiing added.
This intention to get the result scrapped would also be a waste of public fund as the authority has had to pay for the advertisement and also for conducting the interview, Kharshiing observed. If there were no funds, the MeECL should not have advertised for the posts, she argued.
Meanwhile, the concerned Public Information Officer cited financial constraints as the reason behind non-declaration of results till date.
It was also informed in the RTI that the casual jugali are provided TA/DA, while the CSWO was informed that some of them never received the TA/DA.
Since the MeECL is fully owned by the Government, and “the public are the stake holders in the Corporation”, the CSWO demanded answers and action against officials who took decisions to advertise and conduct the interviews, without following procedures “which should be clearly laid down and followed, since there was vacancy”. The CSWO also demanded that the results of the interviews be declared since many expectant candidates have wasted four to five years waiting for the same. It informed that the total number of villagers electrified in Meghalaya as on 30.9.2015 was 5328 and the number of casual jugalis was 649.
