TNT Sputnik win in Shillong Cricket League

SHILLONG: TNT Sputnik defeated 1st MLP by 104 runs in the league match of the Super Division LG Shillong Cricket Tournament organised by the Shillong Cricket Association at the SCA Cricket Ground, Polo. 1st MLP won the toss and chose to field. Being put into bat Sputnik were all out for 152 runs in 38.3 overs. Mridul Das scored 33 runs off 52 balls not out and Uttam Chanda scored 24 runs off 50 balls. While Gautam Chettri took 7 wickets for 19 runs and Steve Syiemlieh took 1 wicket for 21 runs for MLP. In reply, 1st MLP could only scored 46 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 18 overs before rain interrupted the match. Kumar Sewa scored 16 runs off 25 balls. While Aditya Singhania took 5 wickets for 6 runs and Uttam Chanda took 2 wickets for 16 runs for Sputnik.

Annual Sports and Games of Sacred Heart Girls’ concludes

SHILLONG: The annual Sports and Games 2016 of Sacred Heart Girls’ Secondary SCH, Mawlai concluded on Friday. Mawlai MDC PT Sawkmie was the chief guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Sawkmie urged the school students to devote themselves and at the same time to develop other talents. Later, he distributed prizes to the winners of the sports competition. Sr. Lydia Pala, school principal and Sr. M. Ryngkhlem, superior were also present.

Madrid striker Benzema out for 3 weeks

MADRID: The bad news continued to pile up for Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane with the confirmation on Monday that striker Karim Benzema will be out of action for the next three weeks with a hamstring injury in his right leg. Russia, Qatar remain World Cup hosts: FIFA chief Infantino

ZURICH: Newly-elected FIFA president Gianni Infantino has confirmed that the next two World Cups will still take place in Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022. Russia and Qatar won the right to host the tournaments in a controversial vote in Zurich in December 2010. Swiss prosecutors are investigating the bidding processes for the two tournaments, Sky Sports reported on Monday. Infantino went to FIFA’s headquarters after being elected president for the first time on Monday. After participating in a celebratory football game, he said FIFA would be pressing ahead with organising the tournaments in Russia and Qatar. (IANS)
