51067 candidates to sit for Class X Board exams
SSLC examinations get underway today; HSSLC exams from tomorrow
SHILLONG: In a first, the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) has instructed the examination centre in charge and invigilators to frisk students before the start of the examination to prevent any untoward incident.
Making the announcement, MBOSE Deputy Chairman M. Marbaniang said, “We have instructed the invigilators to frisk the students. This exercise will be done in all the examination centres.”
With the advances in technology whereby a number of school students are getting hold of a phone as means of cheating, as was evident in a recent case when the question papers of the Class IX internal examination had leaked on Whatsapp, the MBOSE has sounded an alert to deal with the evolving times.
Marbaniang informed that the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination 2016, which begins on Wednesday, will witness an all-time high of 51,067 candidates with 17 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) appearing their papers.
As many as 21504 Arts students, 3650 Science students, 2211 Commerce students and 6 students of vocational trade, all regular candidates, are all set to sit for the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examinations 2016 which get underway on Thursday.
A total 2783 private candidates in Arts stream, 19 in the Science stream and 42 in the Commerce stream along with 10 PWDs (Arts) are also ready to appear their examinations from Thursday.
In an attempt to eliminate leakage of question papers and attempting to clear it image, the MBOSE has tightened its grip by following strict rules and laying down stringent norms for the examination centres for the conduct of the examinations.
Marbaniang informed that the question papers will be kept under double lock and key.
“The teachers concerned will fetch the packets after they have entered their names in the register complete with date, time and signature at the concerned police station or bank while the other packets of later subjects will be brought back to the strong room,” the official stated.
