SHILLONG/NONGSTOIN: The body of an unidentified GNLA militant was recovered from an area under West Khasi Hills after an encounter between a combined team of police and SWAT and a group of militants on Wednesday morning.
Police said that after the encounter with GNLA militants at around 7 am at Rongtok gates which lasted for almost one hour, the body of the GNLA militant was recovered.
The body was brought to Shallang for post-mortem.
One AK 47 rifle, 2 magazines, 12 live rounds,.32 pistols with 2 live rounds and ID card of GNLA leader Megam was recovered from the spot.
According to police, as many as 8 GNLA militants under Megam, the Area Commanader of West Khasi Hills came to Rongtak area to extort money from the villagers following which the encounter took place.
