Gang of dacoits busted

SHILLONG: Police on Wednesday arrested six persons for their alleged involvement in looting a businessman of more than Rs 1 lakh at a village in East Khasi hills district. The accused are Gulshan Masi, driver of local taxi (ML 05 E 2782), Amar Deb Burman of Lumparing,Pyndngen Kurbah of Pomblang, Pynshai Rani, Labhor Lyngdoh of Golf Club, Mawpun and Kostar Marngar of Pomblang, police said.
According to police, the gang was following a Bolero camper from Shillong in which the victim Banshanniah Nongrum was on his way to purchase broom sticks.
On reaching a place near Umngi Bridge, they stopped the vehicle and forcibly took away Rs 1, 53,500 from him. Subsequently, they disappeared from the place in two groups.
Later, the police with the aid of local people of Pongkung village, managed to apprehend three of them along with the vehicle and the cash.
Subsequently, three other accused were also picked up from a tea stall in Jakrem area.
