SHILLONG: KHADC EM in charge Fisheries, Albinus Lyngdoh, had to withdraw his allegation against fellow MDCs but not before claiming that the fisheries under the KHADC were meant for the amusement of the MDCs.
The incident occurred when Umsning MDC Donkupar Sumer posed a query on the total number of fishery ponds under the jurisdiction of KHADC, to which Lyngdoh said, “There are three numbers of ponds at Lailad and the ponds are mostly for the amusement of the MDCs.”
Lyngdoh’s comments drew giggles in the House prompting Basaiawmoit to seek a query on the MDCs involved, to which the EM said, “I withdraw my comments to enable the Executive Committee to function further.”
Counteracting Lyngdoh’s claim of the existence of three ponds, Basaiawmoit said, “There are four ponds and not three. The fourth pond needs renovation and no allocation has been made so far.”
As this juncture, KHADC CEM P.N. Syiem intervened and said, “We gave the land on lease to generate revenue on a large scale and we are awaiting schemes for this and at the same time expert advice is needed.”
