SHILLONG: The full quarterfinal lineup of the Sentinels Football Tournament, organised by Assam Rifles with support from the Meghalaya Football Association, was finalised on Sunday after Nongrim Hills SC beat Jongksha SC and Eastern Ri-Bhoi FC defeated Laitlyngkot SC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here. Nongrim Hills won 4-0, while it was 5-1 for Eastern Ri-Bhoi. The two victors will now meet in the fourth quarterfinal on March 8. Banpynkhrawnam Nongkhlaw put Nongrim Hills ahead in the 11th minute and the score was doubled by team mate Alem Khongwir in the 42nd. However, even being two goals down did not dampen Jongksha’s spirits as they tested the opposition defensive line and goalkeeper Geremy Passah on several occasions in the second half. In the 88th minute Nongrim Hills put the result well beyond doubt when Dennis Mawphniang had an easy tapin after a Khongwir shot on goal rebounded off the goalie. It was end to end action in the afternoon match as well, with Maitshaphrang Nengnong recording a hattrick for his team. Victor Shadap got the game rolling in the 10th minute when his long distance right-booted strike found the mark. Nengnong then struck his first goal of the match around 25 minutes but it was his 50th minute goal that drew much amusement from the spectators after Laitlyngkot goalkeeper Kamwamut Sumer and defender Commonwell Nongrum collided while trying to clear the ball, which provided the Eastern Ri-Bhoi No. 10 with an easy goal.
