Five women police officers of East Khasi Hills feted

SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills District Police in collaboration with CID Headquarters observed International Women’s Day 2016 at Sadar PS on Tuesday to acknowledge the contribution of women police officers who have been involved in investigation of cases of ‘crimes against women and children’. Speaking on the occasion, chief guest S.K. Jain, Special Director General of Police (SB/CID), Meghalaya, stressed on the need to recognize the efforts of officers who investigate cases. Commenting on the number of women cares in the police force, he said, “There is a drastic change in the scenario, as 10 years back the attitude of male police officers was different towards their women counterparts. More women in police force will change the equation in the Police department.” Commenting on the quality of investigation, he said, “Investigation of cases has taken a backseat; our quality of investigation is very poor, our priorities have changed and our convictions cases are low. If supervisors take interest in their job, the quality of work will improve.” In this connection, he lauded the efforts of East Khasi Hills District police and acknowledged the good quality of investigation of the district police. H. Nongpluh, Inspector General of Police (CID) said women officers play a double role as they have other duties and functions besides the requirement of women police officers to tackle law and order problem in the State. On the occasion, five women officers – Inspector Victoria Tariang, SI Celina M. Sangma, SI Larisha Kharjana, SI Pharlinda Wahlang and SI Shidalinsha Kharsati – were given letter of appreciation and gifts.
