Agartala: It took days to launch an investigation by police against four, including a woman, allegedly for torturing and molesting a woman in Gandacherra of Dhalai district last week for denying to patronise the ruling CPI(M) in Tripura.
The victim told mediapersons here on Tuesday that the police refused to accept her complaint on March 3 last without any medical report.
Allegedly, when she went to Gandacherra hospital the doctors had treated her but disagreed to issue any medical report for police records.
“After a long persuasion, police registered a case against the culprits on March 5 but not yet arrested them since they belong to ruling CPI(M) party,” she alleged.
According to the victim, local CPI(M) leaders namely Raju Bhowmik and Swapna Debnath accompanied by two others stormed the victim’s shop on March 3 evening and charged her for not supporting CPI(M).
“They beat me up and molested me in the market in naked condition. They ransacked my shop and looted out Rs 40,000 and other valuables. The accused left the place when a group of people in the market attempted to detain them,” she alleged.
However, Superintendent of Police (Dhalai) Bijoy Debbarma said based on the complaint, police has been investigating the case but the accused are on the run.
Over allegation on refusal of complaint on the day of the incident, he said the matter was not known to him. But the complaints was registered after two days of the incident, he added.
