SHILLONG: In view of the agitation of SSA teachers of the State with regards to their various demands, Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education, R.C. Laloo, on Thursday said in the Assembly that conditions of qualifications and pass percentage of the concerned teachers will have to be examined.
Laloo was replying to a call attention motion by Witting Mawsor (HSPDP) who raised the demands of increase in salary of the SSA teachers and stated that the government has appointed SSA teachers on contractual basis and not as directed by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD).
It may be reminded that the SSA teaches are demanding salary of Rs 9,200 per month to Rs 30,000 per month for primary teachers and from Rs 9,900 per month to Rs 35,000 per month for upper primary teachers.
Apart from the above demand, the SSA teachers have also demanded regularization of their services.
Mawsor said that in Sikkim primary teachers earn Rs 42,000 per month while upper primary teachers earn Rs 48,000; in Nagaland primary teachers get Rs 29,740 pm while upper primary teachers take home Rs 31,740 per month. In other states like Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh, SSA teachers are getting better salary as compared to the SSA teachers in Meghalaya, the HSPDP legislator pointed out.
