SHILLONG: Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) which has been maintaining the view that the High Court of Meghalaya was wrong in ordering a stay on Meghalaya Lokayukta clause which had allowed an eminent person to become the Chairperson of Lokaukta, has hailed the decision of the Apex Court in vacating the stay.
In a statement to the media on Friday, TUR said that the Supreme Court came down heavily on the Meghalaya High Court verdict staying certain provisions of the eligibility criteria for state Lokayukta after taking suo motu cognizance of the matter.
The Apex said that it was a “sad, sad scenario” which is “impermissible and unacceptable” in law.
A  Division Bench of the Apex Court partly set aside the High Court order pertaining to the stay of some provisions of the Meghalaya Lokayukta Act, 2014.
TUR had earlier criticized the order of the High Court on Lokayukta on January 10 itself raising similar objections.
TUR said it wanted to create awareness among the people that Courts are not infallible and in democracy they always need people’s scrutiny.
