Rajnath attends Assam Rifles raising day celebrations

Shillong: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday attended the 181st Raising Day celebration of the Assam Rifles at a function held at the Director General Assam Rifles Headquarters, Laitkor.
The celebration commenced with a wreath laying ceremony by the Union minister along with Director General Assam Rifles, Lt. Gen. H.J.S. Sachdev and officers to pay homage to the valiant martyrs of Assam Rifles at the War Memorial.
This was followed by the hoisting of a 100 feet high National flag at the Laitkor Garrison, the highest in the capital city.
Later, the Union Home minister addressed the officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and other ranks of Directorate General Assam Rifles at the Rising Sun Sports Complex and also the thousands of Assam Rifles troops from all over the North Eastern states who heard him through a live two way streaming.
In his addressed the Union minister congratulated Assam Rifles on the outstanding conduct of the Raising Day celebrations and the wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial.
He also expressed his delight in addressing the oldest para-military force of the country which was raised in 1835 and has grown from five battalions in 1947 to being a formidable force of the nation.
Singh complimented Assam Rifles for its exceptional all round performance and for rendering yeoman service in the most challenging and inhospitable terrain of the Northeastern region. He exhorted them to continue the good work of maintaining peace and tranquility in the region.
