Goeragre incident: Alcohol found in MTC driver’s bloodstream
TURA:/SHILLONG: The police officer in charge of Rongram outpost who attacked a night bus driver of the state transport service on Tuesday night leading to a mob fury in which a police vehicle was set ablaze has been placed under suspension by the Home department until a probe is completed.
According to the State police sources, Sub Inspector B A Bamon was placed under suspension with immediate effect on Wednesday.
Meanwhile police FIRs and counter FIRs have been filed by both sides over the incident at Goeragre.
The Meghalaya Transport Corporation has filed an FIR against the police officer for assaulting its driver Robin Sangma.
The accused police officer has reportedly also filed a counter FIR against the driver while a third FIR is about the arson attack on the police vehicle.
A medical examination of the MTC driver, in the meantime, is alleged to have found alcohol content in his bloodstream on the night of the incident.
Rongram police maintain that the driver refused to slow down and adhere to police signals at Goeragre leading to the incident.
Meanwhile, Home Minister, Roshan Warjri, while making a suo moto statement in the State Assembly on Wednesday, said that Bamon along with a police party went to site following an accident on the NH 51 near Goeragre.
The MTC bus driver reportedly failed to follow the police signal , which led to heated arguments between the SI and the MTC bus driver and it is reported that the SI assaulted the bus driver, she said.
In the meanwhile some unscrupulous elements set the police Gypsy on fire, the Minister said.
“The DSP, Police HQ Tura has initiated an inquiry into the matter and further departmental action would follow after the report. The matter regarding partial burning of the police Gypsy is also being looked into,” she said.
