Aims to attract big players to invest in proposed IT Park

SHILLONG: The State Government has decided to organise road shows in four major cities in the country to attract big players to invest in the proposed IT Park to be set up at New Shillong Township.
Sources informed that the proposed road shows will showcase in details the State Government’s plan of setting up the IT Park in the State to woo the IT players from across the country. According to sources, after consultation, the Government will take necessary measures to prepare the detailed project report.
Earlier, more than 15 consultancies had responded to the Expression of Interest floated by the State Information Technology department.
The proposed IT Park is expected to provide a new dimension to the State’s IT sector which is expected to benefit hundreds of youths by opening new employment avenues for them.
It may be mentioned that presently, thousands of youths from Meghalaya are working in different IT companies across the country and the world.
The Government intends to set up a huge IT infrastructure in the park where IT companies would establish their business resulting in huge employment opportunities for the local youths.
It is learnt that the proposed IT Park would have call centres and workshops for all the IT related equipment and other infrastructure to make Shillong an IT destination.
To make the proposal a reality, 80 acres of land has been allotted to the Information Technology department for construction of the IT Park.
