SHILLONG:  The North East Frontier Railway is awaiting the no objection certificate   (NOC) from KHADC to acquire land for the proposed Byrnihat-Shillong  railway line.
Officials from NF Railway recently met the State Chief Secretary in this connection, sources said on Monday adding that the chief Secretary, however, could not give any assurance.
It is learnt that NFR in October-November last year had submitted a detailed plan to the State Government   regarding the proposed rail project.
It may be mentioned that only 5 kilometers  of the  survey  is left for the  Byrnihat-Shillong  project  but  the NFRs is facing serious challenges to complete the remaining work.  “Recently, one of our machines was burnt besides our employees are often beaten up,” officials said, adding that   the alignment for the Byrnihat-Shillong  is not coming into any tangle with agricultural land and forest lands.  Meanwhile, the  Tetelia-Byrnihat  Railway line is also going on at a snarl pace due to non-availability of land.
