Pala inaugurates farmers’ fair

NONGSTOIN: Shillong MP Vincent H Pala on Monday inaugurated the farmers’ fair and awareness programme on Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme) organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, West Khasi Hills District.
Under the scheme premium rates to be paid by the farmers have been brought down substantially so as to enable more farmers avail insurance cover against crop loss on account of natural calamities.  Addressing the gathering at Horticulture Office, Nongstoin, Pala said that farmers in the region have often felt at risk owing to crop losses due to natural disasters, falling market prices etc. and keeping this in mind the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana was devised in order to help such farmers.
