Jubilee celebration of Chief of Maharam held

NONGSTOIN: The people of Maharam Syiemship, South West Khasi Hills on Tuesday witnessed a historic day when the Chief (Syiem) of Maharam, Niandro Syiemiong celebrated his 25 years of service as a Chief of Hima Maharam.
Chief Syiemiong received many outstanding awards and gifts from MLAs, MDCs, Syiemiong and Syiemlieh Clans, from Myntris and from different tribes existing in Maharam Syiemship.
The Jubilee celebration was organized by the Dorbar Hima of Maharam Syiemship to extend their respect to the Chief who served 25 years as a ruler.
The Celebration was graced by P.N.Syiem CEM KHADC as a Chief Guest.
The function was chaired by Rowell Lyngdoh, Deputy CM of Meghalaya in the presence of various EM’s of KHADC, Martin M Dango Ranikor MLA, state and district Officials.
Addressing the gathering P.N Syiem has appreciated the long survive of Paiem Niandro Syiemiong, as 25 years is a tough time and a person who faced lot of challenges in this past 25 years deserve to be felicitated.
He therefore called for the unity of all the Himas in Khasi & jaintia Hills.
“If the Dorbar Kur, Dorbar Raid, Dorbar Hima, KHADC and the Government is united there will be harmony in the custom and tradition of Khasi & Jaintia” Syiem said.
Colourful events from a traditional troupe of Hajong, Maharam, Mawten, Mawlangwir and others were displayed in the celebration.
