SHILLONG: The KHADC chairman Manstudy Nongrem has made it clear there is no move to unseat the CEM PN Syiem while terming the report that he was heading a group of rebel MDCs as ‘rumour’.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, he maintained that that he had no intention to unseat the present CEM and as a senior member of the KHADC and MDC he only pointed out flaws in the style of functioning of Syiem.
On the issue of allotment of MDC scheme, Nongrem said, “Rs 2 crore is not enough to fund various developmental projects.”
However, he said that some MDCs had readied a letter not to oust Syiem but to request him to enhance the allotment from Rs 2 crore.
“There is an uneven distribution of the amount sanctioned by the Central Government from the Special Assistance Scheme. The MDCs are disappointed as some have received more than the others. Hence the aggrieved MDCs convened a meeting and prepared a letter to request him to enhance the allotment.” Nongrem said.
Check gates: Nongrem, meanwhile, alleged that the two gates, which have been set up by KHADC for checking challan issued to trucks, in his constituency are “illegal”.
The Council recently set up two gates at Ranikor and Borsora.
“How the KHADC can erect a check gate as the challan belongs to the Government,” he said.
He added, “An amount of Rs 100 to Rs 200 per truck was charged and the people are complaining in this regard.”
As the people of the area were not aware that the gates were set up by KHADC’s  PDF led executive committee they presumed it was the work of the local representative (Nongrem).
Nongrem has taken up the issue of removing these gates with the CEM and executive member (EM) L Blah. “But till date the EC has not done anything in this regard,” he said.
