Minor girl brutally killed in Garo Hills

SHILLONG: In a gruesome incident, a 15-year-old girl was found brutally murdered in a residence at Mendipathar on Saturday morning. The girl, a resident of Bongaigaon town, Assam, was working as a maid servant in the residence of one Mehbub Shikdar.
Police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the information. Even though it was suspected to be a case of rape and murder, preliminary opinion of doctors from Mendipathar Civil Hospital, who conducted the post mortem, indicated that there were no signs of recent sexual assault.
North Garo Hills SP Raghavendra Kumar informed that the house owner had gone to New Delhi for medical treatment.
Stating that the police have got several clues, he informed that a close friend of the victim has been arrested and will be forwarded to the court. Several suspects will also be questioned, the police informed.
NGOs condemn incident
Meanwhile, different NGOs have condemned the brutal murder of the girl.
Civil Society Women’s Organisation activist Jenny N Sangma said that women were unsafe in Assam-Meghalaya border.
Leader of the Garo Students’ Union Northern Zone Willness R Marak termed the murder as cruel and inhuman and demanded that the culprit be brought to book immediately.
Another GSU leader Bilman R Marak appealed the general public not to rent out their houses to outsiders without proper verification.
The All A.chik Youth Federation, Dainadubi regional unit also demanded immediate action against the culprits.
