SHILLONG: After the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that he was ready to quit if there was a better replacement, the former Congress Minister Frankenstein W Momin who is a known critic of the Chief Minister, on Thursday said that there are no dearth of leaders in the party.
“Why does he not resign if he dares? We know that Meghalaya has no dearth of veteran leaders. We have leaders like the two former Chief Ministers, Salseng C. Marak and D.D. Lapang, leaders like R.C. Laloo, Rowell Lyngdoh, Prestone Tynsong, Charles Pyngrope , to name only a few, including the lady legislators Debora C. Marak, Ampareen Lyngdoh and Roshan Warjri”, Frankenstein said in a statement on Thursday.
According to the former Minister, everybody believes that these veteran leaders of Meghalaya would be as capable as Mukul and even more. “It is time for Meghalaya Congress for retrospection”, he added.
According to Frankenstein, Mukul believes in self-centric optimism of himself.
“He (Mukul) very well knows that he cannot deliver the goods to the people, cannot carry the party along in the decision making process, and despite complaints for his style of functioning, he could neither change nor rectify it. Then what for he is there, if not for power and chair”, he asked
‘Mukul destroyed Congress’
The Chief Minister had also told media persons on Wednesday that Frankenstein had destroyed the Congress and that he had also engaged in anti-party activities by campaigning for the candidate of the Opposition party in GHADC polls instead of the Congress.
However, reacting to this, Frankenstein said, “People know that it is rather Mukul Sangma who destroyed the Congress in Meghalaya by his inability to carry the party along the decision making process. The Congress should issue show-cause notice to him for explanation on this matter”.
Denying the allegation that he had campaigned for the opposition candidate, Frankenstein said that as far as the disciplinary action to be taken against him is concerned, since he had already resigned, it would be just a post mortem exercise.
It was on April 10 that Momin quit from the Congress party criticising the style and functioning of the Chief Minister.
After having served the Congress party for forty long years, he had sent officially resigned from the primary membership of the party. The veteran Congress leader from North Garo Hills sent his resignation letter to the district Congress committee.
The former legislator from Mendipathar constituency has been at loggerheads with Chief Minister Mukul Sangma after the former was dropped from the ministry. Momin had joined the Congress in 1976 and was an MLA for three terms.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Chief Minister had downplayed the remarks of Momin regarding his style of functioning stating that as Chief Minister, his focus is now on the development of the State.
