SHILONG: The state BJP has predicted that it will emerge as an alternate to the Congress and other political parties in the state in 2018.
Preparations have already started to strengthen the party at various levels by the BJP functionaries.
When contacted, the State BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh said on Saturday that the party is on the job to form Mandal and booth committees in all the 36 constituencies in Khasi-Jaintia Hills sector.
In Garo Hills too similar exercises are being carried out.
According to Lyngdoh, the people of the state are attracted to the BJP and many are willing to join the party.
The National Council member of the party from Garo Hills Edmund Sangma said that people’s response to BJP was good.
“The popularity of the Congress and NPP is down as visible from the many tours we are carrying out in Garo Hills”, he said
Edmund said that people are completely fed up with the non- performance and corruption of the Congress party.
At the same time, Edmund said that NPP also failed in bringing development to Garo Hills as in spite of repeated wins, the late MP PA Sangma could not fulfill the promises he made to the electorate in Garo Hills.
“The people in Meghalaya do not  have full confidence in the leadership of Mukul Sangma, so they are bound to look upto the strong leadership of BJP”, Edmund said .
According to Edmund, preparations are on to the strengthen the party in all the 24 Assembly constituencies of Garo Hills .
“In the whole state, organizational works have already started and the BJP has already formed district council committees in Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills. We will now strengthen the party at Mandal level, and then at the polling booth levels”  Edmund said.
