FKJGP wants speedy completion of Wah Rew arch bridge

SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has expressed concern over the delay in the completion of a bridge at Shella.
The FKJGP demanded from the State Government to speed up the construction of the arch bridge at Wah Rew situated at Shella, East Khasi Hills District  as this will boost tourism potential of the region .
Ksanboklang Kharshiing, general secretary, FKJGP, Southern Riwar Zone said, “The people of the region will be benefitted by the bridge and we felt the bridge needs to be completed at the earliest.” The organization will meet PWD Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar and the Chief Engineer of PWD in connection with the timely completion of the bridge.
The arch bridge is being constructed by PNR Pvt Ltd, a Chandigarh-based company, sanctioned from the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) scheme. “On the part of the company, it informed that if the State Government is willing to support the construction of the bridge, the bridge will be completed in time,” Kharshiing said.
The construction of the bridge started in the year 2013and it was stipulated to be completed within 3 years. The FKJGP said that early completion of the bridge will benefit the people of the area.
