SHILLONG: Despite the  restriction on the use of  liquor in Meghalaya, there is no respite from liquor smuggling to Bangladesh.
As per BSF records, this year till date, it has seized 9,209 bottles of liquor in Meghalaya border.
The BSF said that though the sale of liquor is currently restricted in Meghalaya, the smugglers continued to ferry bottles to make quick money.
A case in point  is that the BSF troops deployed at Kachhuadogri, West Garo Hills district  intercepted an auto-rickshaw with two Indian liquor smugglers namely Nitend Roy (32) from  Dalu and Chang Kam Marak (20), a resident of  Hatimara,  under Purakhasia  near NH-51 while arriving from Dalu  and seized 32 bottles of liquor along with the auto- rickshaw on Sunday.
A BSF statement said that the troops were keeping a  regular vigil to foil any attempt of smuggling and they succeeded to make arrest of nefarious Indian liquor smugglers.
The BSF party had set up mobile check-posts after receiving a tip off regarding smuggling of any items, the statement added.
