SHILLONG: The Meghalaya BJP Unit is awaiting the Centre’s nod to propose the name of a candidate to contest the Tura by-polls scheduled to be held next month.
BJP leader Edmund K Sangma said the State unit has given its views on the matter and now the ball is in the court of the BJP central command.
BJP leaders in Garo Hills have passed a resolution expressing their desire to contest the upcoming by-election to the Tura Lok Sabha seat slated for May 16.
Top BJP leaders from Garo Hills held a high-level meeting at the residence of party MDC Bhupendra Hajong on the GHADC premises in Tura recently to discuss the upcoming by-poll which has been necessitated due to the death of Purno A Sangma last month.
However, this has not gone well with the BJP central leadership which is annoyed over the rash decision of the local party units in Garo Hills in passing a resolution to contest the Tura Lok Sabha seat without consultations with central leaders, state party president and others.
